Making Checkered Presets
 |
Level: Beginner
Tools: Path Shapes,
Crop, Preview in Browser, Material Texture
Additional needs: None |
| |
Gingham presets are rather hard to find, plus you can
customize them to suit your needs. Begin by opening a new white canvass,
50 width by 50 length |
 |
2. Fill this with a light color using Edit fill.
I'm using pink (Hex##FDD8E6) for this example. Next, maximize your
screen (Ctr-M). We will be going beyond the canvass. |
 |
3. Using the path tool, make a rectangle shape, 2D,
size 128 wide by 20 length. You need a darker color than the background.
Here, I'm using Hex#E90080. Yes, this will go beyond the window.
Next, using pick tool, go to Center Both. |
 |
4. Right click and duplicate this piece. Using
the transform tool, click turn by 90 degrees (either right or left)
Again, use pick tool and center both. |
 |
5. Unselect your shapes (PI 8 use enter, PI 7 use
spacebar). Using path shapes again, this time square, make a shape 21
wide by 21 length, 2D, and an even darker color (Hex #850049).Use the ALT
button on your keyboard while drawing to prevent selecting your other
shapes. Center both |

 |
6. Deselect again. Take the Line and Spline
tool, using your lightest color of your gingham, border 1, dotted line, and
go beyond your canvass again - use your shift key while drawing to keep the
line perfectly straight. Try to get just a smidge below your medium
colored rectangles. Do this 2 times horizontally and 2 times
vertically. Right click, select all, right click, merge as
single object. Keep the gingham square open. |
|

|
7. While the square is selected, go to Effects, Material, Texture Filter.
Select "Leather" (middle one, top row at bottom of screen), and then
click the down arrow next to Texture image. Select texture emboss.010,
using the level at 50. This gives our gingham a bit of texture look
resembling the weave in real gingham. Click ok. |
 |
10. Now, lets go see this looks as a tiled
background.. Got to File, Preview in Browser, As Tiled Background, and
see what you've made! |
| |
11. Once you're happy with your gingham save as a JPG to a folder where you
keep your presets. |
|
Finished
product in other colors

Repeat and use other colors... You can have a whole rainbow of checkers
in no time!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
